General Practitioner Paediatric Network

The General Practitioner Paediatric Network has been set up to help those GPs with an interest in paediatrics to get peer support, practical advice and improve their profile as a doctor interested in seeing more kids.

If you would like to join plesase fill out this form.

Resources

This is a list of resources that will help GPs with all sorts of paediatric issues. Some of this is rehashed PDF documents that are worth reading, some of this is personal anecdotes and experience. As much as possible this is evidenced based. Please let me know if there is a particular topic you would like included.  I endeavour to slowly populate this list.

1. Past Newsletters

3. Useful Paediatric Articles

These have been shamelessly stolen but are very useful articles. They come from a variety of sources, but most are Australian review articles.

  • Wheezing in infants and toddlers   – A practical and useful update to a very common problem. See parent handout on  wheeze associated with resp infection. Personal tip – give the first dose in consultation room to show parents proper technique. This means accessing spacers and masks to be on hand.
  • Otitis Media –  This is 2014 Medicine Today – very useful on treatment.
  • Childhood Infections – Recent review article, covering viral exanthema, Resp illnesses, GIT infections, strep infections and UTIs.
  • Coeliac – Clinical advice – This has some very useful practical clinical advice. There is a useful algorithm
  • Speech and Language Concerns – In toddlers and preschoolers
  • Rashes in neonates – A terrific article on those common rashes seen in the first few weeks

4. External websites

  • Primary Care Clinical Resources RCH
  • Australasian Society Clinical Immunology Allergy – the only website that covers allergy properly
  • Medscape Pediatrics   useful site for general paediatrics – American
  • Clinical Guidelines RCH – Slowly being populated with evidenced based guidelines
  • Fracture Casting Videos – The best ways of perfecting POP application
